The Final Submission !
Firstly, through SEB program, I found out some differences between Japanese work place to Canadian work place. The most interest thing is server at any restaurants or cafes are close to customer like a friend. Their conversations and responses are not as stiff and formal as in Japan, but rather flat and fun. Also, they ask customers during meal “Is everything okay? Is there anything I can help you?”, that was one of surprising experience in Canada. They take care about customer while they are in their place. I feel it is related with suggestive selling I learnt at Food & Beverage class.
Also, good attitude, smile, wording, those are essential to work in the hospitality field since customer judge the store’s evaluation by impression from staff. Greeting is simple, but many people tend to take it lightly, especially during busy time or they are tired, staff forget smiling. Knowing how to self-motivate is also significant.
Secondly, I felt in myself that there are difficulties that are different from doing it alone while I was running a project with others. It is because everyone must forward to the same direction and aiming the same goal. As I mentioned other post, I again realized how important communication skills and teamwork is. I felt that the ability to build good relationships with people is also necessary in the hospitality industry.
In addition, through Sales foundation class, I learnt how to improve interpersonal skill. It is possible by enhancing Emotional intelligence which is the ability to understand feelings and how they shape thoughts and actions. And speaking of the way to enhance EI, we need to reflect on our emotions.
I would say understanding one another's emotions can help team members operate better as a unit. When performing group work, one's ability to handle their emotions in accordance with the needs of the group has an impact on how well the group performs as a whole.
Working in the hospitality field, we face to not only customer but also work with several staffs who are in different department. In this situation, what required is especially interpersonal skill, and teamwork.
It is essential to work with colleagues to determine what customers expect from us and give them back as a service.
Since I have been taking SEB program, I have met so many Teachers who are nice and kind. They always encouraged “Be positive and be confident”.
I am hoping I can get ideal job as an internship near future. For that, I need to reconfirm the skills that I should improve and would like to connect them to internship.
